The kick-off of each Thematic Action Committee is an inaugural workshop. This workshop serves as an introductory event that helps shape the activities that follow. Each newly formed committee starts by holding this workshop which seeks to answer a number of specific questions related to the specific theme of this TAC:
- Who are the most relevant innovative, radical academics and practitioners in the field?
- What are inspiring projects and examples around this theme that are relevant to the Untraceable University?
- What is some key literature that is published in this field?
- What are other resources that are relevant (anything from Youtube channels to academic societies, and from podcasts to activist movements)?
- What are key research questions that should be answered as a core objective of this TAC? In other words, what kind of research can help make a tangible contribution to the plans for the Untraceable University from the perspective of the chosen discipline?
The workshop is best held in the format of a debate and discussion amongst the participants. We recommend that the participants involve senior, experienced people (ideally including both academics and practitioners), who have a good idea of what already has been done within the chosen field. Each participant is asked to think about the key questions beforehand, and runs over their answers in the workshop, with the goal of reaching a preliminary consensus between all participants. The participants can include the Thematic Action Committee members themselves as well, but we encourage to also invite some outsiders in order to get a more diverse participation.
We suggest that there are 3-5 senior participants in the workshop. The quality of the discussion is more important than the quantity of participants. This is about getting a good understanding of your chosen field and its relevance, potential, and challenges with regards to the ambitions of the Untraceable University. We suggest a duration of 2 hours, and either (internal) recording or detailed notekeeping to ensure that all ideas are captured.
The actual workshop is not a public output, but it will greatly influence the actual activities that are rolled out, both Research as well as Education & Outreach activities. The main objective of this workshop is not to gain a perfect understanding of the field and its relevance to the Untraceable University, but instead to obtain a solid top-level overview which can guide your TAC into the next steps.
Please note that representatives from the Untraceable University Research Institute are available to attend and where needed steer the inaugural workshop. However, TACs are also more than welcome to self-organise this event and report back on the outputs.
